I am going to write about an Internal Audit Manager who is interested in the progress of the bank. An internal audit manager has a tough job and interesting responsibility.
Last Wednesday I interviewed Nizar Qaiser Luqman in the First Gulf Bank (FGB). He is an Internal Audit Manager there. His monthly salary is 28,000 DH. Beside his salary he has additional benefits such as free air tickets and performance bonus. He said that, in order to be an audit manager you must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. He has been working in this job for six and half years. Also he said that an Internal Audit Manager should know some skills to do his job such as working in a team, training new workers, setting timelines, following timelines , working by himself making plans /decisions for a bank or department and managing the group work. Regarding future promotion, Nisar said that he wants a gradual promotion sequence leading up to head of internal audit by his early forties and to be responsible for leading a group of people, training new workers, and making more decisions. He has many training courses such as Internal Control, Operational Risk, General Banking, Treasury Products and the length of the courses he receives lasts usually three to five days and comprises lecturing. He said”I would advise anyone who want to be an Internal Audit Manager to have a Bachelor Degree. In addition he should speak English very well and work hard”.
Also he said that NBAD, ADCB, ADIA and ADNOC, have the same type of job. He started with FGB as an audit officer. He had two jobs before he started this job as personal credit assistant for two and half years and as a personal credit officer for two years. Every day he starts work in his office at 8.00 am. After reading the paper and having four cups of tea, he checks and responds to his emails and he goes to the unit he is auditing, where he checks files, reports and the IT system for any irregularities. After a short lunch he returns to the office to document audit finding and complete the relevant checklist. The work day ends at approximately 5.30 pm. On the way home he always buys some things from the supermarket for the house. He helps his children to do their homework because he is a good father and good manager too. He spends an hour watching T.V with his wife. Finally, he goes to bed about 10 o'clock because he has to get up early every day.
Finally Nisar said” I will be interested in the audit fieldwork, writing reports and dealing with most staff in the bank”. But he finds it difficult to deal with those who resent and fear auditors; they have a tendency to be defensive , hiding facts and even lying.
